Extrusion Technology
Nowadays Extrusion Technology playing an important role in many industries such as food, feed and polymer. Extrusion is a multivariable unit operation i.e. mixing, shearing, cooking, puffing and drying in one energy efficient rapid continuous process. This process of High Temperature Short Time (HTST), extrusion brings gelatinisation of starch, denaturation of protein, modification of lipid and inactivation of enzymes, microbes and many anti nutritional factors. The extrudates are texturally and histologically restructured.
Nutrilab® Diet is manufactured using High Temperature and Short duration (HTSD) extrusion method. In this process, feed ingredients are subjected to high temperature (130 º C to 140 º C) and high pressure (Approximately 200 atm) for a very short duration (Under 30 Seconds). In addition to adapting Extrusion Technology, raw material or feed ingredients employed in the manufacture of Nutrilab Diet are subjected to various quality test by qualified and dedicated Q.C team so as to ensure better quality end product that meets the requirements.
Steps Involved in Extrusion Process :
1) Selection of Feed Ingredients and other raw materials
2) Grinding and Mixing of Ingredients
3) Preconditioning
4) Passing through the Extruder Machine
5) Drying of the Pellets (Finished Product)
6) Analysis of the Finished Product
7) Packing
KEY BENEFITS OF EXTRUSION
| Very low Microbial Count | High temperature
and pressure kills majority of the organisms including Salmonella and
E.Coli. |
| Anti-nutritional factors | Destroys anti-nutritional
factors thus prevents untoward effects and improves the digestibility |
| Gelatinisation of Starch | Breaks down starch
into simpler units and improves the digestibility and palatability |
| Ruptures Oil-Bearing Cells | For better digestibility,
palatability and stability.
|
| Lower Moisture Level | Excess moisture is
flashed off bringing end product to under 10% moisture level. |
| No Wastage of Feed | Pellets
are firm and do not break or don’t get powdered during transport, storage or feeding, so no wastage of feed. |
| Don’t Absorb Moisture | Pellets do not absorb
moisture during storage or during use in the animal house
|
| Long shelf life | Six months to One year |
| Uniform Size | The
Extruded Pellets are oval shaped with uniform size.

Analysis for Contaminants:
Nutrilab Diets are analyzed periodically (once a year) for various contaminants (Undesirable Substances) like Pesticides, Heavy Metals, Individual Aflatoxins and Microbiological Parameters from LUFA-ITL Laboratory of Germany, a leading Feed Analytical Laboratory of Europe.
QUALITY FEATURES OF NUTRILAB DIETS:
As for the levels of the Undesirable Substances, we follow
the Limits mentioned in the ‘Guidelines for the Quality-Assured Production of Laboratory Animal
Diets’ by the ‘Committee for the Nutrition of Laboratory Animals’ of
GV-SOLAS, Society for the Laboratory Animal Science, Germany which is accepted
as European Standard for Lab Animal Feed. As seen in the enclosed Test Certificates,
the levels of undesirable substances are nil or well below the limits set by
this authority.
